In letter to congress, over 180 employees of FEMA warn that Trump administration is putting cost cutting above protecting people during disasters. This follows similar letters from CDC, EPA, NASA, National institute of health and National science foundation. All warning that Trump has made U.S. worse.

Being in a hurricane prone area South Floridians are well versed & in most cases, prepared for a storm. Many have portable generators & their hurricane crate of flashlights, batteries, first aid kit etc. Those who are in a flood zone can easily stay at a shelter although the security there is sketchy.

However, those who have never been in a hurricane don't respect Mother Nature & they become a real pain in the ass for 1st Responders.

As far as governmental help provided by FEMA, I wish kc was still positing because he could tell you about people on the west coast of Florida who got devastated by Hurricane Helene & are still homeless or living in temporary housing waiting to settle with insurance companies or are chasing the scumbag insurance companies that went out of business. I certainly wouldn't expect FEMA or any state agency to react quickly after a bad storm. Now with the reduction in FEMA personnel & funding, you would be a fool to count on assistance from them.
