There is no leash with Berkman. He faces righties and Thames faces lefties. He's the backup 1B while Thames is the 6th OF.

It seems that nobody has followed Berkman except for his bad start with the Yankees. He started off horrific, then tripped over someone at 1st base and sprained his ankle. He's since come back, has been a platoon with Thames against righties only, and has been hitting over .350 v righties since. He's not happy with his power but he's getting his hits and he's had a career of high OBPs.
