I do love my bench as I feel it's really strong.  Packers D and Gostkowski were just cherries on top of what I feel was a very solid draft.  We shall see.

Flat-bet...2-3% of your BR only....be selective...don't increase or decrease your bet-size unless you reach a specific goal (like doubling your BR, etc)....don't chase!...have some 'play' $$ aside for action wagers and fun 2-team parlays.  That's about it.  Most important is try to be selective and do your homework.

I have a top-5 QB, two top-5 RB's, and the #1 TE on my team.  Sure WR's are my weak spot but a combination of Marshall, Britt (he was sick last year when healthy), Brown (pre-season super-star in PIT), and Collie should be sufficient (we only start 2 in our league).

I know fantasy football is all about each owner's perception and expectations, and obviously we analyze the players differently.  good luck with your drafts

Yeah I hear ya bro it is all about perception.  But as Romo will be good I see many qb's later in the draft that will close enough to what he does to get a better value pick in the 3rd round.  I dont see him as a top 5 but top 8-12.  Gates is a stretch because this year is so deep at TE.  You got a top 5 that are locks with a few behind them.  Once again this is fantasy and its all about value, I dont believe you got good value from those picks.  I do like Marshall and Britt as sleepers but neither are in optimal positions with their teams.  Miami/Henne sucks and Tenn runs the ball a lot.   Ingram and Jacobs both solid picks but Stewart and Brown are bums.  But like you say its all about perception.

I completely understand what you're saying in terms of 'value' later in the draft, etc and certain positions being very deep.  I do understand this but you have to remember that I've started out with two top-5 RB's (top 3 rated RB's in some cheat-sheets).  At this point, I'm already ahead of the game.  My pick was 8th in the 1st round.  I wanted to target a top WR in that spot but this year 6 WR's were kept and a couple more were drafted prior to my spot.  I was targeting Mike Wallace but he was gone.  At the same time Vick, Rodgers, Brees, Manning, Rivers, Brady, and Ryan were gone at QB.  The best available WR's were V. jackson, DeSean Jackson (who I dont like this year), and Wayne (don't like him either).  All tier-1 WR's were gone.  I'm high on Romo, and sure I could have gotten Stafford/Roethlisberger/Eli/Flacco/etc later in the game, but to me Romo is a significant step-up from those guys.  I wouldn't be surprised if he's on a similar level as Brees/Brady/Rivers this year, and I expect a big year.

Then in round 3 (I already had 3 RB's, 1 QB, and 1 WR on my team at this point) Gates was available at my spot.  Sure TE's are deep this year and I love guys like Graham (#6 on my board) and Owen Daniels (#7) and could have waited, but when I have a team that truly could win the championship this year, it's important to get the BEST at each position if possible.  Gates is a clear-cut #1 TE, and frankly I'm surprised he lasted that long.  It was an easy decision.  The WR's that were available at that pick were:  Britt (who I still got on the way back in the 4th), Boldin, Manningham, Steve Johnson, Ochocinco.  I could have taken one of them but would have ended up without a #1 TE in all of fantasy. Now is that really 'value'?  I don't think so.

My point here is this.  I know 'value' is important in fantasy football, but it's also important to get the best players possible when you have the luxury to do so.  By keeping Peterson and Charles, I was in that position.  I got my top-5 QB in Romo (my perception of course), I got a #1 TE in Gates, and I have decent WR's with Britt, Marshall, and Brown.  Heck I even reached for a defense by taking the Packers early, something I never do.  Gostkowski was my last round pick.

One final point, you can't say that Stewart is a bum.  The guy is a solid RB and would be a top 15 back if DeAngelo wasn't there.  Ronnie Brown is a season or 2 removed from being a top 10 pick, and he's a McCoy injury away from possibly being a top 15 back as well.  Those are my #5 and #6 running backs.  If you're talking about 'value' you have to admit there's a ton with those 2!

Good point.  I took the Rangers/Angels Over yesterday, and it was helped tremendously by the heat.  The Over hit in the third or fourth inning.  It was one of those where right after you won boredom overtook you and you wish you'd have bet more.

THX Bodio for the write-ups... Nice place to start instead of digging thru a pile of data!!

one other thing that I have noticed in the last two weeks or so is that although the astros are bad they dont quit. from the manager to their last player they are giving 100 percent unlike the cardinals who just seem to lay down.

I can definitely see where your coming from as I will agree gates had decent value there.  I still wouldve gone V.Jax or Wayne with top pick.  While I agree talent wise I believe both are overrated but both are the top "wide" reciever on 2 of the top 5 offenses in the league, maybe the top 2!  With the #5 and #6 rb's not bad I guess I have stewrart as my #4 in one of my leagues and I am ready to drop him I think he is garbage unless D.Williams gets hurt.  Cant wait for football!

Yeah it was either VJax and Stafford or Romo and Marshall.
I decided to go with option #2  :)
