BS get with the time, its not the 80's.
You pay to get info/leans/picks that are light years ahead from what they were when you were a young lad. Services like Dr Bob sports, Right Angle, Footy stats have consistently made money. It all depends on money management/wager size/sport. Now with exchanges popping up everywhere bookies are going the way of the flintstones.
If you want to have fun at least shop around for the best line and don't wager what you can't afford to lose.
Derivatives and props make these markets beatable if you have the right information.
