Treading water lately after a nice run earlier in the season. Time to start a New Year's streak
CAR/PIT Over 1.5 1st period (-145) 2.9 units to win 2. I thought about the total game over but found competing trends. The over is 6-1 in the Pens last 7 home games and Andersen/Skinner combined for 35 goals over their last 5 games each (7 goals average), but head-to-head the under is 7-1. Last season the 1st period over 1.5 was 3-0 between these 2 teams and I think that's the way I'm going to play this given the two goalies in net tonight.
MON ML (+110) 2 units to win 2.2. The Habs have won 5 straight against the Panthers, were already in Florida playing Tampa Bay 2 nights ago and gave the Lightning all they could handle. Florida is also playing their 3rd game in 4 nights while this is only the 2nd game after the break for the Habs. Given all that I'll take a shot at plus money even if Florida is the better team overall.
NYI ML (-145) 2.9 units to win 2. I went against my own rule and bet against the streak with Winnipeg yesterday. It's VERY difficult to time the end of streaks. Until further notice the Blackhawks are a fade for me. They are 1-6 without Bedard in the lineup and are averaging 2 goals per game in that span. The Islanders haven't been any better offensively, averaging 1.9 goals per game in that same stretch. The difference is the defense. Chicago is a mess defensively, coughing up 4.3 goals per game over their last 7 games while the Islanders have given up 2.3 gpg which is consistent with their brand of play. I can't see an angle that favors Chicago until we see them get it together without their star player.
