Anaheim’s Trouba can probably breathe a little easier tonight. No need to brace for another Tom Wilson retribution head hunting and/or fight shift.
After Trouba knocked out Caps rookie phenom Leonard with a blatant shoulder to head hit and somehow got zero punishment, to the surprise of a lot of NHL players/ fans, this game was definitely circled on the calendar. Between the way it was discussed in the media and the not so subtle hockey payback talk from Caps coach Carbery, Wilson, and others in the Caps room, it had all the makings of a response game.
But Wilson is out, and right now he is arguably Washington’s best all around player. That is a huge loss. The Caps are already a step slow, and without him it is hard to see them keeping up with Anaheim’s speed. Lindy also does not look like the same guy from last year and is giving up 3+ goals each game with ease
If anything, Washington’s best shot at winning tonight is sending Journeyman goon McIlrath after Trouba, whether Trouba wants it or not. Beyond that, it could be a long night for the Craps.
