Seattle Seahawks -5.5
Green Bay comes into this game as a lot of "perts" NFC Champion. Now this is certainly a possibility, but I can't see them winning this game. It wouldn't surprise me if this is a preview of the NFC Championship game and it wouldn't surprise me if GB got the W in that game.
I think back to a MNF game last year, NO v Sea (-6.5). The line was very similar, lots of Love for Drew Brees and his talented offense. NO will run the ball, control the clock, control the crowd, yada yada yada... Anyone remember how that game ended up? 34-7, Seattle, in one of the worst beat downs I've seen on MNF. The pressure that the crowd and this defense puts on the opposition is un-matched. And now you've got the opening game of the season where the SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP banner is going to be unveiled, Seattle will be rocking.
Rodgers is a quarterback that is willing to take chances. He has the best arm in the NFL, but Seattle has a secondary that thrives on QBs taking chances. Aside from Nelson and Cobb, GB doesn't have the threats that we have become accustomed to on the outside, I'm not taking anything away from these players, just saying that Rodgers has some young unproven guys that are going to have to step up in a game like this.
There should be a lot of action for Lacy, and he is going to be a great running back, but Seattle will punish him and make him earn every yard. The way the pressure is handled from the rookie center on GB is the key to the offense for them. This is something major to watch throughout the game.
The major focus for me is Russell Wilson. This guy does not get enough credit. He is a winner and a true leader. His "why not us" attitude is still one to live off of. I feel like this entire Seattle team is discredited at the start of this season. In my eyes they are still the best team in the NFL and only got stronger over the offseason. They now have a healthy offensive line, a year more mature Russell Wilson, a developing playmaker in Kearse on the outside, plus beast mode at running back.
People are concerned that the area of focus on penalties, specifically defensive contact after 5 yards will affect how Seattle plays. Well, last year Seattle was the MOST penalized team in the league, they won the Super Bowl. The year prior, Baltimore was the MOST penalized team in the league, they won the Super Bowl. Good teams can and will adapt to how the referees are calling the game after the first quarter or so. I do not see this new defensive penalty emphasis affecting Seattle much at all.
Dont over think this game folks. Seattle is a force to be reckoned with. This, much like all of their games, will be a Statement game to the rest of the NFC/NFL that once again the road to the Championship will go through Seattle.
Good luck to all this season.
