Oddsmakers look to mitigate risk and assure profit by evenly splitting action. A common misconception is thst a point spread represents how much better one team is than another. Actually, it respresents what number the oddsmakers think we'll split the action. Most people outside of hardcore basketball fans are unaware of the Bulls. They have a stacked lineup with guys like Vucevic, Josh Giddey, and Buzeli but none are household names. Everyone is aware that Knicks are "supposed" to be good. Plus New York has like 20 million people in the metro, and even more if you widen the circle. That's a lot of homer bets. If the line leaned towards Chicago, books would get pounded by Knick bets, leaving them exposed. As it stands, they probably took in more Knick action, both total dollars and tickets.
