Gausman owns Ohtani and you walk him

Managers can and do lose games

It’s just incredible. Shohei Ohtani is now 2-17 against Kevin Gausman and Blue Jays manager John Schneider treats him like he’s 9-19 against Gausman. 

hahahaha.... ancient Japanese secret... shhhhhhh! hahahha 

Ohtani is 0-8 as a Dodger against Gausman. That decision in the top of the 3rd inning might wind up costing the Blue Jays a trophy.

 Yea shohei came out swinging at nonsense too. It hindsight, walking ohtani there definitely a mistake. But at that moment, they feared mr shotime

What a coincidence. SO is hitting just .185 in the Dodgers’ seven playoff road games.

Last night in the top of the 3rd with Edman on second base with one out, there was no need to fear Ohtani to the extent of putting him on first to face the dangerous Will Smith. That was a stupid move. Blue Jays manager John Schneider undermined his team in that moment in a way in which they were unable to recover.

Bad move the worst that could of happened was a. 2 run dinger pitch to him the greats didn't get this much respect not saying that he isn't the goat

 doesnt matter that shohei is hitting .185 on the road, hes still by far the best hitter and the most dangerous ones.  You cant take your chances with the goat at the plate, if other dodgers show up to beat you, it is what it is.

Right now I’d rather face Shohei Ohtani in a big spot than Will Smith. Ohtani has looked downright confused at the plate in each of the last three games while Smith is cool under pressure and hitting .308 in the last two series. Smith, in my opinion, has performed even better than that because I give him a pass for going 1-6 in Game 3 while having to catch all 18 innings, and I give him another pass for going 0-4 the next night when he was obviously spent and had no legs.

Take away those two games and he’s hitting .379 against the Brewers and the Blue Jays.

You certainly can, and you certainly should when he’s in an obvious funk AND he’s facing a pitcher that he’s never figured out (Gausman). Did you see that pitiful strikeout of Ohtani by Gausman to begin last night’s game?

 thats what great players do, even when struggling, their presence alone is enough to make an impact. They strike fear in the opposing manager and impact their decision making.

Even if ohtani didnt look good vs Gausman thus far, there's always fear that he will wipe it out in a swing, thats why managers do what they do, they have much greater fear having to face him than anyone else.

As for obvious funk, yeah he looks like hes in a funk then all of a sudden he hits a home run, and all of sudden he goes 3/3 with 3 HR, and then all of a sudden he goes 4/4 with 5 walks.  go figure, i am not taking my chances with him.

Yes, Ohtani did that, but it was Blue Jays manager John Schneider’s huge mistake to even BE feeling fear at that juncture. Ohtani was among the many ice cold Dodgers who haven’t hit the last three games, he was 2-16 against this pitcher, and it was just the 3rd inning of a 0-0 game! And a much hotter hitter was due up next!

God, it was SOOOO friggin’ dumb!!!

Those games happened at Dodger Stadium. Take away his incredible Game 4 vs. the Brewers and his highly damaging Game 3 of this series and Ohtani is batting a pathetic .161 in the playoffs!

 well the manager the made the decision to walk so that they could take a chance with Will Smith instead of ohtani, and he didnt expect there would be consecutive hits to surrender 3 runs total, if he knew he probably woulda taken the chance with ohtani.  It's easy to say in hindsight, what if ohtani hit a home by pitching to him, then what?? Blue jays fans would be screaming what a retard by pitchign to him with first base open.

Hindsight nothing. I immediately began squawking about that intentional walk in Digitalkarma’s in-game thread, even before Will Smith cranked his RBI double.

They actually have a much greater fear of the press and fans hammering him afterword's for not "going by the book"

You speak the truth here.  Its also why I consider the move a bit gutless, just an ass covering decision.  Reminds me of the wonderful pitching changes that are made strictly because of arbitrary pitch count number is coming up.  Barf
