Wow what an amazing athlete!!! A political activist and a spiritual man that was far before his time in that regard. I would equate him to the great MLK in terms of being a leader in the advancement of civil rights IN THE CORRECT WAY... far different from any so-called leaders today.
He had a full life, and I remember watching him fight live when I was young. He won most fights in dramatic fashion, and lost a few as well. He fought in MANY weight classes taking on all challengers

Great athlete/boxer, no business lighting torch at Olympics though.
I agree such a hotdog... he would intimidate and trash talk before trash talk was a term to me known. I always regarded MJ as the best in that regard, but Ali invented it.
Not sure what you mean about not worthy to light the torch... maybe you don't like that he defied the draft? He won his court battle in that regard, and IMO he was right and correct. The draft was a bad period in our country. I am a patriot and a strong supporter of our military, but the draft was a bad experiment IMO

Check out Jack Johnson. He trash talked too. Decades before Ali.
Johnson humiliated his white opponents, he didn't want to knock them out, saw a documentary where he actually was holding up a guy keeping him from going down.
Pretty sure Johnson was Ali's role model... Ali took the trash talking to another level - and he was blessed with the beginning of mass media as we know it.
And he was on the right side of the Vietnam war before it was popular.

One of my all time greatest heros, I remember getting in an argument with my grade 5 teacher about Ali's stance on the vietnam and getting sent to Principals office.

Rest in Peace Ali = aka Cassius Clay
Came in here expecting to bash you because of the way you spelled "Muhammad" in your topic line - thought you were gonna be a hater, glad to see you're not.....

George Forman was my favorite during those golden years in the heavyweight class. Ali was so damn hard to square up though. RIP buddy. You were one hell of character and a fighter. Glad I was lucky enough to meet him and have a brief conversation.

Agree completely....Tyson wasn't even in the same class. We lost 3.5 yrs of Ali's prime, but even before or the few yrs after, Tyson would have had no prayer. Remember in the late 80's/90's getting into a discussion about it at a bar & couldn't believe these guys thought Tyson was better in his prime. Saw Ali fight 3 times in Houston...vs Ernie Terrrel, Cleve "the Cat" Williams & Jimmy Ellis & as a heavyweght there was noone better. Only 1 was close pound for pound was Sugar Ray Robinson as a middleweight in his day.
