Yep, he's got a lot of 'fu*k you' money. Curious to see if he stays in the game and moves on to another school....or if anybody would hire him.

 imo smaller schools should be lining up to hire him. he is a really good recruiter and coach, and has always been great at getting the best out of lower level talent. he didn't like the nil stuff, and was too slow to come around. i could see him thriving at a smaller school without the pressure to win every game. he could possibly get back to the younger version of himself that was so aggressive and had big balls. the last several years at ostate he has had baby balls.

It would have to be a smaller school. I don't think a P4 school would hire him right now. I'm a little surprised, but not shocked that they picked this time to fire him. They usually give a long tenured coach the benefit of the doubt. But in today's game, money talks, and they have a bigtime OSU donor lined up and ready to give over $10 million to the school. But only if Gundy is no longer the coach.

 im not sure good recruiter would be on his resume, now developing 2 star talent I would agree with, but he was not flashy to attract the constent recruits for top 25 classes. I do agree he would do better at smaller schools but honestly I think the game has passed him. He needs to travel around and hang out with his old coaching pals and count his money.

 cost them 15 mil to fire him tho. they have been wanting him gone for a few years. sucks he had to go out like that, but he needed to be gone for sure.

Gundy's salary wasn't really the issue. T. Boone Pickens dying was the issue. The donations dried up after that. They need another sugar daddy. Supposedly they have one...I'm sure a few others will get on board now that Gundy is gone.

Gundy had a 66% win rate (both registered season and bowls).....only had 2 losing seasons in 20 years.....Hell, he was the Big 12 coach of the year in 2023.....He was a good motivator and a good guy/coach.....

The "I'm a man! I'm 40!" speech from 2007 is still one of the best "coach had players back" moments.....

Conference realignment, NIL/portal crap made it hard to get guy to come and/or stay....Ok St isn't alone in this issue.....

So please stop with the "no big program is gonna want him".....not sure why a big school wouldn't want a guy with 20+ years experience thats always been a winner and a players coach.....

Sadly, the bigger coaching jobs are about 'what have you done lately?' And the last two years haven't been kind to Gundy. But I do like his offensive system. He stuck to his guns with that system for 20 years and was very successful. But you still need the players to operate it. Being ranked 50th, 58th and 59th in recruiting rankings the last three years isn't going to cut it..

Surely there are still some mullet loving alumni somewhere that would love a cool man like Gundy/excellent coach who looks like a modern day Michael Douglas. Always a gentleman on the sidelines but you never got the indication he was soft....far from it, he had fire and purpose

Sad joke ?  Gundy was the winningest coach in program history. His 170 career victories are among 108 more than any other coach in school history. In his 21 seasons

Cowboys went 170-90 overall.

Do you think Oklahoma St is gonna be a top 25 recruiting school? If you get the right kids, 3 and 4 stars often out perform 5 star recruits.....thats where the coaching comes in. Of course last 2 years was the introduction of NIL and the portal....so a weird transition period has been happening.....Clemson and Ok St are 2 of the bugger schools that thought they could stick to the old ways and build from within....maybe in a few years it will even out, but now you gotta open your pocketbook for the best players.....the difference is small position by position....but added over 22 guys makes a big difference.....

Gundy's better teams were mostly top 30/35 recruiting programs. But I think the most important thing right now is NIL, which seems to have flown right by this OSU program. You've got to be able to fill the key positions like QB, which OSU doesn't seem to have this season. I'm not sure exactly how Gundy feels about NIL. Everybody assumes he hates it. He may have a negative reaction to it because the school won't supply the big money to go after these players. But if Texas Tech can do it, OSU should be able to do it. I'll be curious to see what Gundy's next move is. If he still likes coaching like he says, then he'll probably go to another school in some capacity. But it also wouldn't surprise me if he goes the way of his brother Cale and gets into media.
