Well we finally got our wish. I guess there will be a bidding war for Kiffen now!
Him and Franklin were Past Due! Different is about to make Serious money. LSU and Ohio St are Basically WR University. The Perfect fit for LSU is Kiffen

@hoopsvader
No way would anyone who knows what Coach O did to the LSU program let him near that campus ever again! Saban is too old and doesn’t want to deal with the new NIL/portal mess. Those two together 15 years ago would have been great. O could recruit his ass off for sure.

Yeah I just don’t know who out there would be a good fit besides Kiffen. I love Cignetti and think Key from Georgia Tech would be good if they don’t want to pony up the money after paying Kelly off.

We live in a weird era where people want or think they want coaches fired so quickly. 9 or 10 win seasons aren’t good enough for people anymore. Good seasons don’t really buy you any time anymore. All Kelly has done is win wherever he’s gone. What happens when the new guy is worse do we wish we had Kelly again or just keep hiring and paying ridiculous buyouts. I’m kind of thinking Wisconsin wishes they had Chryst still now the people want Fickell out. How fickle it’s all become.

I never really saw saw this as a good fit. How did they expect Kelly to recruit in the SEC? Especially with him as a Yank and all of his coaching jobs being in the Midwest.
And how soon do these athletic boosters stop paying these outrageous buyouts? It seems like it's beyond a bubble.

@RexR
Guys, these payments aren’t “buyouts.” BK’s contract ran through 2031. LSU fired him, which means they broke their end of the deal. Because of that, they owe him a settlement. His payout is actually less than what they would’ve had to pay if he stayed for the full contract.
I don’t get how people keep mischaracterize these termination issues with all schools and coaches and calling them a “buyout.” They are merely paying the contract that both parties agreed to (and in most cases far less than what the actual contract was worth).

if they are paying him to leave and it's less than what the actual contract would have paid out...then it's a buyout.

no playoff appearances. and the program has gotten worse while he's been there. LSU has Natty expectations. Not 9-4 and a Gator Bowl bid

no argument there. and that's what got him hired by LSU into the SEC. It just wasnt a great fit for them.
and once he had to step up in competition and quality, he was good but not great. 3 and 4 loss teams arent what LSU wants. Even Coach O got them a Natty.
i think there was dissatisfaction with higher expectations.
but LSU is now in "Lane Kiffin or bust" mode. they will have to outbid PSU and Fla for his services. Things are going to get very expensive.

Call it what you want to, I guess. Fact remains a contract was signed, and LSU broke it (Along with Penn st, Florida, etc.) and now they have to pay. So for some to say something as asinine as "until these universities quit with these monster buyouts, blah, blah blah," it would be worse. The school could have to pay out the entirety of the contract that was signed. So be thankful for the "buyout" clauses.
