Other plays were:

3* South Carolina -4 to Texas A&M

3* Michigan-Maryland under 129

2* Bama -3 to Florida

2* Minnesota -3 to Indiana

Note: I guessed wrong on the Louavul game playing early. Line is currently -4.5. I'm not worried about it, my pr's have them at -9. I believe they win by dd's.

Lots of high scoring 2nd halves late last night.

WV (10-14, 2-9) vs Kansas (19-6, 8-4)

Those that have followed my thread know that I have played every WV game to date and have done extensive writeups on those games. I've been dialed in on this team since their opening loss at home to Buffalo as an 11 point favorite. I'm 19-5 so far with several large plays on these games.

I basically just write the same old story every time. That WV is a shadow of recent highly successful editions of the Mountaineers. They sorely miss graduated guards Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles. This has taken them out of their Press Virginia style of play. WV's guard play has been atrocious this season. Their best returning guard Beetle Bolden has had bumper to bumper injury issues all season and Huggins said in his weekly press conference that Beetle is unlikely to play today. Big Center Sags Konate will miss his 17th consecutive game today. That makes WV playing without their 4 best players from last season.

In addition, this week Esa Ahmad and Wesley Harris were dismissed from the team for "violations of athletic department policies". Ahmad had played in 112 games and started 102 games and was averaging almost 13 ppg and 6 rpg this season. Harris had started in 57 games and was averaging 8 ppg and 5 rpg this season. He was considered there best perimeter defender.

Throw in Konate's and Bolden's absence and WV will be without 334 games of combined experience.

That leaves WV with 9 healthy scholarship players. Those 9 players average a COMBINED 26 ppg this season.

The main problems that WV has suffered from this year remain the same and I highlight them every week.

~Poor guard play.

~Streaks of poor overall shooting that lead to long scoring droughts.

~They don't take care of the ball, way to many turnovers. 17/gm

~A below average defense.

~They continue to miss critical free throws.

Yep, I know WV upset Kansas and Oklahoma. AT HOME in the Coliseum. It was the worst performance from a Bill Self coached team I had ever witnessed. Improbably, Brandon Knapper who entered the Oklahoma game with 36 baskets and 26 turnovers on the season came off the bench against the Sooners and scored 25 points. With the game in the balance with 2 minutes to go Knapper scored 8 straight points to seal the win. He has scored 2 points since then.

WV recent form:

Last Saturday Texas blew the Mountaineers clear out of the Coliseum in Morgantown 75-53. WV opened the game going scoreless for almost 5 minutes. Texas had a 6 point lead at the half but opened the second half on a 10-1 run and outscored WV 41-25 as the Mounties put up little fight in the second half. The Longhorns put on a dunking exhibition with 8 slam dunks in the second half. Texas scored 40 points in the paint.

WV ended up 18-51 for 35%, 3-16 from deep at 18%.

At Texas Tech WV had 3 field goals and 14 turnovers at the half. That is not a misprint. They had a15 minute stretch from the last part of the first half into the second half with ZERO field goals. WV ended the game 9-39(NINE) for 23% and committed 26 turnovers. On a 65 possession game that is a 40% turnover rate.

They lost 81-50.

After the game Huggins said "We've never been beat that bad before. Never. I don't know if the players are but I'm totally embarrassed."

WV is 0-5 on the Big 12 road.

In their last 4 road trips overall they got beat by TCU 98-67, Tennessee 83-66, Iowa St 93-68, Texas Tech 81-50.

Huggins has already signed 5* recruit 6'9" Oscar Tshiebwe out of Kennedy Catholic in Hermitage, PA. I look for Konate to get a medical redshirt and return next year.(No way he is ready for the NBA yet) With 6'10" freshman Derek Culver continuing to improve by the game this would give WV a formidable front court next year.

Huggins has also signed point guard Miles McBride from Moeller HS in Cincinnati.

This past week WV extended an offer to Tajzmel Sherman, a 6'4" combo guard who is the #3 scorer in Juco D1. Two years of eligibility left.

They also offered a scholarship to 6'4" shooting guard Sean McNiel out of Sinclair CC in Dayton, OH. He visited the campus last weekend. He leads Juco D2 in scoring at 31 ppg, shooting at a 41.3% clip from deep, 89% from the ft line. He has 3 years of eligibility left.

WV also offered a full ride to Clarence Nadolny a 6'3" combo guard at Scotland Prep who came over from Paris, France to the US in 2017. Four years of eligibility left.

Not offered yet but on the radar screen for WV is a high schooler, a 6'5" shooting guard from EL Paso who leads the state of Texas in scoring at 39 ppg.

Why do I bring all this up today? Something has to give. Huggins still has 11 players on scholarship that could return next year.

Four are freshman guards Jordan MCabe, Brandon Knapper, Emmitt Matthews, and Trey Doomes. Jermain Haley is a junior guard. Throw in Beetle Bolden and starter Chase Harler and that's 7 guards on the team already who are eligible to return next year. With one guard already signed for next year and 3 other offers already made there has to be attrition from somewhere. You can't field a P5 team with all guards.

I don't know the ins and outs and legalities of players already on scholarship but there is not room for all these guards(or maybe current other players) next year. I don't know if Huggins sits them down and flat out tells them they won't be playing next year and they transfer or what.

In my mind these kids have to already see the handwriting on the wall. I would think it now weighs heavily on their minds. That's why I don't see a big rallying "next man up" effort here today. But even if this is somehow a motivating factor I still think WV is in big trouble at the Phog today.

I lost count after Huggins has used 11 different lineups and 12 different starters so far. Who knows who he he starts today.

WV has never won at Allen Field house since they joined the Big 12 and that was when WV had some pretty good teams. Kansas has annually had some "home cooking" for the Mountaineers because WV has won in Morgantown 4 of the last 5 games and has always played them tough at the Coliseum.

I like the way Kansas is playing the last two games with the 4 freshman starters and Lawson. 5* point guard recruit Devon Dotson is really improving fast now that he has been starting for a while. He had 25 points and 10 rebounds vs TCU. He is a big upgrade from Grimes.

Some sources say the absence of Lagerald Vick is a positive for the team. I just know they played with more enthusiasm in their last 2 wins

over OK St and TCU and their offense ran a lot smoother as they returned to their uptempo game scoring 84 and 82 points in back to back games.

KU needs this game to remain in the hunt for a 15th straight Big 12 Championship and to also add to their Big Dance resume with a convincing win.

With Kansas in revenge mode after their embarrassing loss in Morgantown this year I look for the Jayhawks to respond with an inspired effort on National TV. Lay it.
