The Connecticut Sun can seemingly do no wrong. They boast a 22-10 overall record, have gone 8-2 since the All-Star break, and are one of the true contenders at this juncture.

Throughout the season, they've covered almost all question marks about their championship contender legitimacy. The last hurdle is proving they can defeat the Chicago Sky.

The Sky, 24-8 on the year and looking to defend their WNBA title, have defeated the Sun three times this year and would love nothing more than to put further doubt into the Sun's psyche going into the playoffs.

Sun vs Sky picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Spread analysis

On the basketball court, having the ability to hit incredible shots from different angles and ranges can be a gift and a curse. The ability to bail out a dead possession with incredible shot-making is a gift but can turn bad when you rely on it too much.

That is how Jonquel Jones and Brionna Jones lost to the Sky in overtime in their last matchup. They both can score in miraculous ways but sometimes bypass the easier scoring option. In this matchup, the Sun will adjust their game plan slightly and avoid taking as many jumpers.

The Jones teammates have proven they can score in abundance against the great Candace Parker and Azurá Stevens in the paint. In the matchups against the Sky this season, Brionna has averaged 17 points, which is better than her overall season average. Jonquel has also found success, highlighted by a 24-point game in June.

It's remarkable how successful the Sun have been this year, considering the near season-long absence of Jasmine Thomas, their lead playmaker. Thomas is a veteran who knows how to command on offense, not turn the ball over, and get the best shot possible for the team.

Her absence becomes a big problem in games such as the overtime matchup against the Sky. They didn't have a leader of the offense to win a close game late. Connecticut recently signed Odyssey Sims, who will look to fill that void.

In 32 games this year, the Sun have lost by three or more only eight times. It's hard to beat a title contender four times in one year. I think the Sun will fight for their lives in this one and squeeze out a victory.

Prediction: Sun +2.5 (-105 at FanDuel)

Over/Under analysis

While both teams have already clinched a playoff spot, there is still work to be done. Seeding matters significantly in the playoffs, and the race for the No. 1 spot in the standings will matter greatly to both teams.

For the season, the Sky and Sun are the two more efficient teams in the entire league and each land in the Top 3 in offensive rating and points per game.

Both teams are solid defensively but they are tough to game plan for as they don't rely on a single player or two to carry the load. The Sun have five different players who score more than 10 points per game, while the Sky have six players netting that mark.

This makes it nearly impossible to slow a team down when they have many options to score the ball. If Parker has an off night, no worries; Kahleah Copper, Allie Quigley, or Courtney Vandersloot can pick up the slack.

The tension will be high in this one and carry as close to a playoff atmosphere as you can in the regular season. The Sky possesses a 16-15 Over/Under record for the year, while the Sun is at 17-14.

Due to both teams' ability to move the ball effortlessly, I predict they will meet the Over in this one.

Prediction: Over 166.5 (-110 at FanDuel)

Best bet

One thing that's difficult in any sport is sweeping a season series. That task becomes increasingly difficult against one of the Top 3 teams in the entire league. That's precisely what the Sky aim to do when they face off against the Sun Sunday afternoon.

This matchup is a mental and narrative-based battle as much as a basketball game. The Sun haven't allowed themselves to be swept by any team this year. They've avenged losses to every team they have taken a loss to this year.

The Sun know if they fail to win this game, critics will question Connecticut's ability to take down Chicago. As such, I imagine we will see the most spirited performance of the season from Connecticut in what oddly feels like a must-win.

The Sun hold a distinct advantage over the Sky on the offensive boards. Connecticut currently grabs the most offensive boards in the entire league per game (10.2) compared to the Sky, who ranks seventh (7.5).

I expect the Sun to hone in on the offensive boards in this, combined with their ability to score around the basket. The Sun will win in a psychological must-win game.

Pick: Sun moneyline (+130 at Unibet)
