Mexico’s Aldana looks to have her hands full against the tough Chiasson, as these two try to inch closer to a title shot. Both fighters have had trouble sustaining momentum when it looks as if they are about to break through to that elite bubble, and this makes it a do-or-die bout. If anything, Aldana looked better in her last win against Yana Kunitskaya at UFC 264 than Chiasson did scraping by Norma Dumont at UFC 274.
Aldana may be the shorter fighter in both height and reach, but she’s a busy striker who can put her opponents in a world of hurt in short order. She operates with a resoundingly high 5.61 significant strikes landed per minute and has 10 finishes in 13 wins. She usually defends well against takedowns and can keep the fight off the mat.
Chiasson’s physical strength and grit have her just outside the Top 10, but she’s as live of a contender as there is in this bout. She is a methodical striker with solid defense, landing 3.70 significant strikes per minute and only absorbing 2.56 in return. Chiasson is returning to bantamweight after competing at featherweight for a stretch. She’s also coming off a performance where she scored six takedowns and maintained control for half the duration of the fight with Dumont.
We know that Aldana is going to take the fight right to Chiasson, so Chiasson has to hope her second return to bantamweight comes with better conditioning than her previous campaign. That being said, Chiasson is going to have a size advantage and could be carrying more power in her strikes than she normally displays.

Once Aldana gets her offense going, she’s hard to stop but easy to hit. It was shocking seeing her get handled so easily by Holly Holm just two fights prior, but Chiasson doesn’t have the experience or hypnotically methodical style Holm possesses.
Inconsistency is Chiasson’s biggest issue, and she’s had success against someone of Aldana’s caliber thus far. She does enjoy a decent advantage in reach, but Aldana’s footwork and crisp striking may minimize any potential work she can do on the outside. Because Aldana is so good at stopping takedowns, Chiasson will need to bang it out if she wants an opportunity to get her on the mat.
