Elias Pettersson scored twice in a three-point game to lead the host Vancouver Canucks to a 6-2 victory over the Dallas Stars on Monday and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Brock Boeser and Jason Dickinson both collected one goal and two assists, Vasily Podkolzin produced one goal and one assist and Conor Garland added a goal for the Canucks (38-28-10, 86 points), who are riding a six-game winning streak.

Thatcher Demko made 28 saves for Vancouver, which is four points back of the Los Angeles Kings for the third spot in the Pacific Division and five out of a wild-card position with six games remaining.

Roope Hintz scored both goals for the Stars (43-28-5, 91 points), who are tied with the Nashville Predators for the two Western Conference wild-card spots. Starting goalie Jake Oettinger surrendered four goals on 19 shots before being pulled. Scott Wedgwood stopped 10 of 11 shots in relief.

Dallas had gone 3-0-1 in its previous four games.

Garland continued his strong run by netting his 17th of the season at the 7:28 mark of the first period. Seconds after Oliver Ekman-Larsson rang a shot off the post, Garland ripped home a one-timer from the left circle.

Hintz replied with his first of the game 44 seconds later when he whipped a top-corner wrist shot for the power-play tally, but Pettersson restored to Vancouver lead with five minutes remaining in the opening frame with a tap-in tally.

Boeser, back after missing five games due to an elbow injury, notched his 20th of the season 83 seconds into the second period by teaming up with Pettersson on a two-on-one rush.

Hintz notched his second of the game and 34th of the season three minutes later by converting on a short-handed breakaway. Dickinson -- who was acquired from the Stars via trade last summer -- tipped a point shot into the net for his fifth of the season to make it a 4-2 affair at 10:33 of the middle period.

Podkolzin notched his fourth goal in three games, and 14th of the season, by wiring a short-side shot from the left circle 49 seconds into the third period. Pettersson collected his career-best 29th of the season with an empty-netter at 16:59 of the third.
