Scott Wedgewood made 44 saves and stopped all three shootout attempts to pick up a victory in his debut with the Dallas Stars in a 4-3 decision against the host Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night in Raleigh, N.C.

Roope Hintz scored twice for the Stars after Jamie Benn opened the scoring. Jason Robertson provided two assists for Dallas, which has won three games in a row.

Nino Niederreiter scored two goals for the Hurricanes and Vincent Trocheck had the other. Brady Skjei provided two assists.

Frederik Andersen made 12 saves. He preserved the tie by stopping Michael Raffi's penalty shot with 5:51 to play in regulation.

Wedgewood began the season with New Jersey before logging 26 games for Arizona.

The teams traded goals in the first four minutes of the third period. Trocheck scored off a rebound for Carolina before a minute later Hintz notched his team-leading 27th goal when he was left alone in the slot.

Niederreiter put Carolina back on top with 9:36 to play before Hintz's second goal 59 seconds later knotted the score again.

The Hurricanes produced an 18-4 edge in first-period shots, but they won only once in a four-game homestand (1-1-2).

The Stars scored on the first shot of the second period, just 30 seconds in. Benn knocked in the puck off a pass from Alexander Radulov.

Carolina pulled even on Niederreiter's goal at 6:44 of the second period. He was in the slot and benefited from Skjei's pass.

Joining Wedgewood in the Dallas lineup for the first time was forward Vladislav Namestnikov, who was acquired this week from Detroit. His most notable moment in the game came after he elbowed Carolina defenseman Brett Pesce and then was the recipient of a series of punches as Pesce drew an instigator penalty.

Forward Max Domi made his Hurricanes debut after arriving in a trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets earlier in the week.
