Boone Jenner scored two goals and Yegor Chinakhov had the deciding tally in a seven-round shootout as the Columbus Blue Jackets earned a 5-4 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday in Glendale, Ariz.

Zach Werenski scored a third-period goal for the Blue Jackets and Justin Danforth added the first of his career in his second game as Columbus won for the fifth time in seven games.

Ryan Dzingel, Phil Kessel, Lawson Krouse and Jakob Chychrun scored goals for the Coyotes, who earned a point in consecutive games for the first time this season.

Elvis Merzlikins, becoming the first to start three consecutive games in goal for the Blue Jackets, had 25 saves. Scott Wedgewood stopped 42 shots in his third start since joining the Coyotes off waivers from the New Jersey Devils on Nov. 4.

Werenski gave the Blue Jackets a 4-3 lead with 6:23 remaining, but the Coyotes were able to tie the score 41 seconds later when Chychrun scored his second of the season into the roof of the net from the left faceoff circle.

Dzingel scored his first of the season at 5:59 of the opening period in his return to the Coyotes from a 10-game absence caused by a lower-body injury. Jenner got the Blue Jackets even with his first of the game on a power play less than four minutes before the first intermission.

Neither team scored throughout most of the second period until a flurry of four goals in the final 3:31.

Kessel gave Arizona a 2-1 lead when he scored his third of the season unassisted off a Blue Jackets turnover at 16:29 of the period. The Blue Jackets tied it 23 seconds later when Jenner scored his second of the game and ninth of the season.

Another 42 seconds later, the Blue Jackets had a 3-2 lead when Danforth scored three days after making his NHL debut. The Coyotes gave their response with 43 seconds remaining in the second period when Crouse scored, his fifth.
