The march to the PGA Championship continues with the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Maryland, marking the first year it's being held at the course.
Jon Rahm is enjoying his first win of the season after last weekend's Mexico Open and won't be in the field, but Rory McIlroy will look to win the tournament for a second consecutive year.

Notes on the Field
After the Mexico Open featured a fairly thin field in terms of recognizable names after favorite and eventual winner Jon Rahm, the Wells Fargo Championship looks like a similar case with few high-profile names taking part. Rory McIlroy is the highest-ranked golfer in the field (7th in OWGR, 11th in FedEx Cup standings) with Tony Finau and Abraham Ancer the only others ranked within the Top 20 in the world. Still, Matt Fitzpatrick and Corey Conners are among the favorites, so it may not be as top-heavy as Mexico. Russell Henley, who is 42nd in OWGR, is fifth on the PGA Tour in scoring average at 69.846, which is the best among this field.
Favorites to win the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship
Rory McIlroy (+750)
McIlroy is the overwhelming betting favorite at +750 and is the only golfer in the field with odds shorter than 20/1. It's easy to see why. Despite only playing in five PGA Tour events in 2022, McIlroy is still 11th in FedEx Cup standings. No other golfer in the Top 80 have appeared in as few events as McIlroy's six for the current season. Astounding.
He's made it count. McIlroy hasn't played since a second-place finish at the Masters in early April. And despite a missed cut at the Valero Texas Open before that and a T33 at THE PLAYERS, McIlroy had a 13th and 10th at the Arnold Palmer and Genesis Invitational, respectively. Oh, and he's also won the Wells Fargo Championship three times (though his first came when it was called the Quail Hollow Championship), most recently a year ago when he bested Abraham Ancer (+3,100 to win this year) by a single stroke.
McIlroy also owns the best overall performance at this tournament. He shot a 21-under 267 and finished seven strokes ahead of Patrick Rodgers and Webb Simpson when he won in 2015.
His success, however, all came at Quail Hollow Club, and this year involves a change of venue to TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm. Can he carry it over?
Correy Conners (+2,000)
Conners has been busier than McIlroy on the PGA Tour in 2022 and has played quite well. He followed up a T6 at the Masters with a 12-place finish at the RBC Heritage. He's still looking for his first tournament win since the 2019 Valero Texas Open, and Conners didn't fare all that well at Quail Hollow last year when he finished T43 at +2 for the event.
Tony Finau (+2,200)
The 32-year-old Finau was riding a mediocre-to-rough patch entering the Mexico Open last weekend, finishing no better than 29th in seven straight events, including three missed cuts. It looked like he was trending to another middle-of-the-pack finish before he tied a course record at Vidanta Vallarta with a final round 63 to finish tied for second and a stroke behind winner Jon Rahm. He missed the Wells Fargo cut a year ago, so we'll see if he can ride last weekend's momentum.
Notable long-shots to win the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship
Brian Harman (+6,500)
Harman won the Wells Fargo way back in 2017 at Eagle Point, defeating Dustin Johnson and Pat Perez by one stroke. The 35-year-old hasn't won on Tour since, but he does have a pair of Top-5 finishes under his belt this season, most recently a T5 at the Valspar Championship in mid-March. He also had an 18th place finish at the Wells Fargo Championship last year and 24th in 2019.
Cameron Davis (+10,000)
Davis finished in 26th at the Wells Fargo Championship last year and later earned his first PGA Tour win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. After a few missed cuts earlier in the year, Davis looks like he's starting to turn a corner. The 27-year-old finished T46 at the Masters and T3 at the RBC Heritage at -12, a single stroke out of the playoff between Jordan Spieth and Patrick Cantlay. Davis is also listed at around +1,600 for a Top-5 or +800 for a Top-10 finish.
