Senators vs Kings Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Stutzle Continues Power-Play Production

Tim Stutzle is averaging a point per contest for the Senators but has been especially productive on the power play of late. At a juicy plus-money price, our NHL betting picks are backing him to record a PP point in his third straight game.

The Ottawa Senators are set to play the fourth and final game of their West Coast road trip, which hasn’t necessarily been all that successful thus far.

They won their most recent game against the Anaheim Ducks by a 5-1 final score but were outscored by their opponents 9-2 in the two games prior

The Los Angeles Kings ended their three-game losing streak on Friday as they beat the San Jose Sharks 5-2 on the road, so now they're looking to find consistency and put some wins together with this the first of a four-game homestand.

The Senators have not been playing their best hockey as a collective lately, winning only once in their last four, but one player that has stood out on this West Coast trip has been Tim Stutzle, who enters this game on a three-game point streak, with power-play points in back-to-back games.

As I break down in my NHL picks and predictions below, Stutzle will be the guy to watch tonight.

Senators vs Kings best odds

Senators vs Kings picks and predictions

Both the Senators and Kings have had decent five-game stretches, so it’s a little difficult to pick a side in this matchup, but Tim Stutzle has been having himself one hell of a season.

Stutzle enters this game averaging a point per game, with eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points in 20 games. Two of his eight goals have come on the power play, which adds to his seven points on the man advantage.

In his last seven games, he has recorded nine points and five of those have come on the power play. As a team, the Senators currently have the ninth-best man-advantage unit, with a 24% success rating. Their power play has been buzzing and has scored in four of their last 10 tries.

The Los Angeles Kings' penalty kill is one of the weaker units in the NHL, entering this game ranked 23rd with a 75.3% rating. The Sens' power play should be able to convert if given the opportunity and Tim Stutzle is a key contributor to their power play success.

My best bet: Tim Stutzle Over 0.5 power-play points (+180 at BetMGM)

Senators vs Kings moneyline analysis

This will be the first meeting of the season between these two clubs, but the Kings have dominated the battle lately, winning both matchups last season. Ottawa is also 1-4 in their last five meetings in Los Angeles.

The Sens have not been all that comfortable playing on the road this season, skating to a 2-6-1 record as the away team. Their numbers on the road aren’t too pretty, allowing 3.44 goals against per game and only scoring 2.56 goals per game.

The Kings haven’t been a dominant home-ice team this season, but they are still playing strong in their own barn, entering this contest with a 6-4-0 record. That being said, they are 5-1 in their last six home games.

The expected starters for this game are Cam Talbot for the Senators and Jonathan Quick for the Kings, which projects as a relatively even goalie battle.

The Kings have been the better team of late and should snatch a win here tonight.

Senators vs Kings Over/Under analysis

The Kings and Senators are both below-average defensive teams with mediocre goaltending. They are 22nd and 23rd respectively in goals against per game, with Kings allowing 3.39 goals per game and the Sens allowing 3.45 per contest.

Cam Talbot’s numbers are better than his record, which is 2-5-0, but he boasts a .918 save percentage and a 2.58 goals against average. Jonathan Quick’s record might be better at 7-6-1, but his numbers are not as he's sporting a .895 SV% and a 3.07 GAA.

Both of these teams have some offensive weapons on their respective sides, for the Senators, Tim Stutzle, Brady Tkachuk, and Claude Giroux have had great starts to their seasons and for the Kings, Kevin Fiala and Anze Kopitar are leading the way.

These teams are good enough to put the puck in the back of the net and with the weak blue lines, I expect to see some goals in this game.
