The Philadelphia Flyers will carry their seven-game losing streak into DC to take on the Washington Capitals, who are *checks notes* on a four-game losing streak. Oh boy. The mighty have officially fallen as injuries have riddled both rosters, and new faces are filling up the top of the Metro Division.

With both sides coming into this game slumping, something is bound to give. But which side will it be? Let's find out in my NHL betting picks and predictions for Flyers vs. Capitals on November 23.

Flyers vs Capitals best odds

Flyers vs Capitals picks and predictions

TNT was probably expecting more excitement when they saw this game on the TV schedule at the beginning of the year, but instead, we get a battle between two injury-riddled teams fighting to stay out of the Metro cellar.

Philadelphia's heroic start to the year has stalled out ferociously, and the Capitals can no longer keep their head above water with their mountain of injuries taking its toll. Washington has sucked at everything this year — especially goaltending — so rather than taking a swig out of that juiced Caps moneyline or putting money on a team that has lost seven straight, let's bet on Washington's offense to keep sucking!

The Capitals team total sits at 3.5, a mark they have surpassed just three times in their last 10 games. Washington's offensive numbers are pathetic — sitting in the bottom third in the league in goals, shots, power-play percentage, and shooting percentage.

When we take a dive into their advanced analytics, the picture doesn't get prettier. Washington's xGF at 5v5 sits at just 38.41, not too far off of its 36 scored at even strength. The Caps aren't getting unlucky, they just plain suck right now.

Looking at the Flyers, defense has definitely been an issue for them on this losing streak, but if we look at the season sample size, they are still middle-of-the-pack defensively overall. Carter Hart is expected to get the nod for Philadelphia.

The 24-year-old has been solid thus far, sporting a .920 SV% and 2.68 GAA. He hasn't been perfect — far from it — but he doesn't need to be to keep the Caps from scoring four times.

Let's continue to fade Washington's offense before it can finally figure out how to put pucks in the net on a consistent basis.

My best bet: Capitals team total Under 3.5 (-104 at Pinnacle)

Flyers vs Capitals moneyline analysis

Washington opened as a -207 favorite in this battle between two mediocre Metropolitan foes and has since been bet up to -250. The Capitals have lost four straight games, not to be outdone by the Flyers who haven't won a game since November 8. Against the spread, Philadelphia is 11-8, while the Caps are 10-10.

On Washington's side, an aging corps and injury bug has demolished this team through the first quarter of the season. These squads are near the bottom of the division's cellar, and time is running out for them if they want to have a shot at a Top 3 spot in the ultra-competitive Metro.

When two bad teams play each other, you never really know what you're going to get. Betting on Washington at such heavy juice simply doesn't seem worth it, and betting on a team that has lost seven straight seems like you're asking to lose money. I'd recommend staying clear of any side bets in this tussle and putting your money elsewhere.

Flyers vs Capitals Over/Under analysis

The total for this tilt opened up at 6 and has stayed put. It's no surprise this total opened up at that number when you look at the basic numbers Washington (26th) and Philadelphia (30th) are both in the bottom third in the league in goals per game, as well as 25th and 29th respectively in shots per game.

When you look at their O/U records, the Flyers are 9-8-2, and the Caps are 9-10-1, not exactly strong trends to go off of. Although I don't have an official play on the full-game total, I would be inclined to lean toward the Under tonight. Injuries have piled up for both teams, but their goalies are capable enough to keep this game close — especially with neither side firing pucks on the net at a high rate.

I'll most likely just stick with fading Washington's team total and avoid any silliness that may come from Philadelphia.
