Arizona to win

Home-court advantage is massive in college basketball, and where these neutral-site games take place will make a big difference in this tourney. Top-seeded Houston and Texas Tech will benefit from playing in Dallas during the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, while No. 2 seed Arizona gets to play in-state if they make the Final Four. I have UConn getting through a chalky field in the East, and since there's always at least one team outside a Top-2 seed that wins its region, I'm backing an experienced and balanced Creighton squad to get through the Midwest, which has the annual March Madness chokers Purdue and Tennessee entering as the top 2 seeds.

UConn wins again

Multiple indicators foreshadow strong March Madness teams. Historically, even a preseason ranking should be considered when zeroing in on your bracket's finalists. But the most important and obvious indicator is recent success. How have you played against worthwhile competition in the last month?

In that thought process, Connecticut and Creighton are two of the top three teams in the country. Nebraska is No. 6, partly evidenced by going 7-2 ATS since Feb. 10, and if not for fatigue in Saturday's Big Ten semifinals, that would have been an emphatic 8-1. The Cornhuskers topping Houston in the second round would still be an upset, but not nearly as much of one as you may think.

Trusting the teams that surged in the last month of the year emphasizes the most pertinent yet sizable subset of the season. But, of course, let's also trust the defending national champions since they are somehow better this year.
