The NBA and NHL will begin looking towards the future this June when both leagues host their annual entry drafts.
The NBA gets the party started on June 22 in Brooklyn, and there's absolutely, positively zero doubt over which prospect will have his name called first by Adam Silver. French phenom Victor Wembanyama has been a -20,000 favorite for more than two months thanks to his towering height and ability to dominate the game at both ends of the court. No less an authority than LeBron James has called the 7-foot-2 center an "alien," praising him for his fluidity and athleticism.
Although "Wemby" is destined to be chosen first, there are plenty of fabulous consolation prizes in this year's draft including explosive point guard Scoot Henderson and sweet-shooting Alabama freshman Brandon Miller. Both players figure to be Top 5 picks and, with any luck, future All-Stars.
Hockey fans shouldn't expect much drama at the top of the NHL Draft either, as Regina Pats sensation Connor Bedard is a lock to go first to the Chicago Blackhawks on June 28. The prolific center notched 143 points in just 57 games in the WHL this past season, and is widely regarded as the best amateur prospect since Connor McDavid.
The NBA and NHL drafts aren't the only must-see events in June. Sports fans can also look forward to the Belmont Stakes, the U.S. Open, Wimbledon, and the return of the CFL.
