Anyone used picksixpreviews before? His selling point seems to be that his P5 accuracy is consistently better than Phil Steele's but Phil still wins the G5. Problem I have with Steele is I just don't really find much value in it after a couple weeks but maybe that's just my own fault, are preview books even worth it in your opinion's when we have guys posting good preseason info on here? If there's a smaller one you'd recommend let me hear it

I got picksix in 2020 just to check it out .. there's a few front of the book charts that are interesting w the program trajectories and recruiting but nothing too special in my view, Phil's got a ton more info .. Picksix's team preview notes are also not formulaic like Phils are and might spend more of their preview emphasizing certain things they think are more important. But I like that about Phil he comments on each team the same way and its pretty thorough .. I do like P-Six is in a PDF, not Phil's jerkey online platform he had in past yrs, im unsure how phil did e-books in 2021, maybe better now, I went back to a hard copy.
End of the day I don't think there's really any info you get from picksix that you'd miss in Phil maybe some added perspective and also the diffs in what they think are the better teams / predictions, etc ... Apparently P-Six does predict well but that is based on the division or conf order of finish which is aggregated by stassen.com.. those predictions are important, nice to know were not reading a dingbat preview, but only part of how I'd judge the value of a preview .. Phil's is the best by far in my view and trust much more because almost all the coaches spend an hour or so talking their team thru w him directly .. P-Six says they call coaches but unclear how many .. Phil always makes it a point to mention how many HC's he talks to usually 115ish or so coaches outta 130 and he gets legit scoops on their post spring rosters and other stuff .. that and quality of the preview is really what you're paying for w him ..

Link to stassen below, good ref to have. They post a bunch of preview mag's division predictions and post results after the ssn which is what the mags point to for their accuracy claims ..
I noticed P-Six was #2 in the final tally this year but interesting to note if you break it down by P5/G5 the higher rank is because they outperformed in their G-5 predictions.. I guess they are submitting those to stassn now, weren't in past years .. idk if the preview even mentions those now, doesn't sound like they are doing full previews on G5 teams ..
What's interesting is how close the predictions often are between mags, lotta group think .. obvi part of Phil's and P-Six claims to fame are their 'most accurate' claims so really have to expect them to play things safe for the most part and I'll pay more attn if I see them out on a limb for a particular team .. Phil touting Washington big time pre ssn was bad but that shuda been obvious after losing week 1 to montana state .. he did clue us in to W.Kentucky .. but you'll see nobody's really taking real sniper shots on the surprises this year like Michigan, N.Ill, Utah St, Pitt, Wake, Mich St, Baylor, Miami-Oh, at least not one they were willing to take a risk on w their official predictions.. And can't blame them for that either, even if they have a gut feeling on say Michigan maybe you'd move them to #3 in the division ahead of Indy and score an extra point vs the herd, but there's no incentive to risk putting them #1 and falling way behind everyone if we get typical Michigan or worse .. you'll see a few dingbat previews had Indy way up there #2, #1 .. might make sense to take moon shots like that when a preview lacks credibility and/or real ability and only way to get any prevew cred is take bigger risks hope for a solid finish .. that's another reason to read the preview closely, Phil might make his previews sound a bit too fluffy for my liking, but consider he does have relationships w the coaches so cant trash any of the teams, however he def give us strong hints on who he thinks might surprise even if it doesn't line up w his predictions ..
On your other note, there is no preview that is gunna win us money without considering what we have seen on the field after a few weeks. The preview is still good as a ref but has to be combined w our understanding of how good teams are on the field when we see them .. in theory if every team was as good/bad as advertised the bookies would be super sharp and we'd just be flipping coins all season .. the trick is to know when things are really way off from what we thought coming into the season. Try going back after a couple games and review stassen's pre-season 'consensus' conf/division rankings and see if any teams might likely finishing better or worse than the previews thought .. and not even wildly different, if a team finishes 2 spots diff and you catch on early you'll make money playin or fadin those teams .. its just like anything else in sports betting, gotta be quick .. I'd also just recommend that when every preview is ga-ga over a surprise team .. like North Carolina .. best to just sit it out or fade it .. pick six had them going to the playoffs btw lol ..

especially the stassen reference been trying to get together a google doc with all the key sites for CFB instead of leaving 20 tabs open all season like LY.
The playoff really created a boom or bust chance for these guys in regards to that UNC thing though, it's funny that just about all these guys could tell Clemson would finally drop the ACC crown but then all whiffed on UNC. But yeah season before when I first followed him he had Florida as that bubble 4 pick and almost had the offseason bragging rights with that one the shot in the dark for the 4th spot is just a funny spot for preview guys right now.
I think following that I'm gonna roll with Phil again and just make sure I get it earlier maybe just focus on one conference from the mag and see what happens. You're completely right regarding these interviews though, even though these coaches are some of the bluntest guys on the planet how's a coach supposed to tell a guy in spring ball that they're already dead in the water especially early on in his tenure? Some of those guys are so hyperaware of everything that gets said about their program if Phil feels the need to fluff it up I can't imagine guys smaller than him feel comfortable doing anything else so yeah the overlap in what they hear from coaches really makes it feel like we're only ever going to need one.
Thanks again man see ya on here in a couple months
